Due to the financial limitations that the pandemic causes, add to that the ongoing economic turmoil that we are experiencing we are constantly on a lookout on how to save some money. While talking to my officemate she told me that she had converted her postpaid mobile plan to prepaid to save some money, also since she felt that the postpaid plan price is no longer worth it. That is exactly my same dilemma, I have my postpaid for about 8 years now. I have several moments where in I wanted to have it discontinued due to the plan price. But what got me think twice is the same reason, I have the same number for so many years that I no longer want to update my contacts if I get a new number. Also I id use the number as my primary contact number for my banks and other utilities.
Thanks to my officemate and REPUBLIC ACT NO. 11202 also known as the "Mobile Number Portability Act." I now have an option to have my postpaid plan converted to prepaid or vice versa. We can also chance telco provider and still retain our mobile number.
I did my transaction at Smart Center in SM Sta. Mesa (Centerpoint). The process is fast, the customer service just ask me the reason why I want to have my plan converted, I honestly told her "its to save money, and the plan is no longer worth it for me". Then she ask me to pay my remaining balance, then once I present to her the receipt, she initiated the process immediately. After about an hour or two, I did receive a sms regarding the successful migration. I also double check using the GIGA Life App and it says there that my number is now on Prepaid subscription.
Of course there wouldn't some hiccups. First the PLDT Kiosk that I use did not dispense change for my 1K bill, My remaining balance is just Php400, my PHP600 is given via a QR virtual change which I can use for my next transaction, which again I can no longer use since I'm already on prepaid and will have to more monthly billing. Second I lose the VoWIFI/VoLTE feature of my sim, which is useful to me since I live in a condo and have very weak telco signal. But in the end from what I gained versus what I've lost I still think that it is still worth it to have my plan converted.
Oh BTW for the virtual change, What I did is use it to pay the bill for my PLDT landline and add some cash using the same KIOSK.
Peace.
